Air Force: Ukraine downs all 10 Russian drones launched overnight

On June 29, 2024, the Ukrainian air defense forces successfully shot down all 10 Shahed-type attack drones that were launched by Russia overnight. The drones were reportedly launched from Primorsko-Akhtarsk, a region in Russia's Krasnodar Krai.

The Ukrainian Air Force's mobile fire groups were involved in the effort to repel the air attacks. The drones were shot down over several oblasts in Ukraine, including Mykolaiv, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, Cherkasy, and Vinnytsia.

Throughout the night, the Ukrainian Air Force warned of the threat of drone attacks in multiple regions. In Vinnytsia Oblast, sounds of explosions were heard around 3 a.m. local time, although no damage or casualties were reported.

Drone attacks have become a daily occurrence in Ukraine, affecting various regions across the country. In recent months, Russian attacks on critical infrastructure have increasingly targeted Ukrainian energy facilities, leading to the implementation of rolling blackouts across the country on May 15. These blackouts have become more frequent in the weeks following.

Overnight on the same day, Russia's Defense Ministry claimed that its air defenses had shot down six Ukrainian-launched drones over Bryansk, Tver, and Belgorod oblasts, as well as occupied Crimea. However, the Kyiv Independent could not independently verify this claim.

The successful downing of all 10 Shahed-type drones by the Ukrainian air defense forces is a testament to their capabilities and the ongoing efforts to protect the country from Russian aggression. The continued attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, including the increasing frequency of drone strikes and blackouts, highlight the persistent challenges the country faces in the conflict.
